Flintoff: We must be fearless

17 January 2009
Flintoff - whose participation in the forthcoming series is in doubt because of a knee injury which first seems likely to rule him out of next month's World Twenty20 - was captain when England followed their famous 2005 triumph by losing 5-0 Down Under in 2006-07.
"We have to be very positive - fearless without being reckless," Flintoff told Sky Sports. "We have to take Australia on. When we did well against Australia in the past it was playing with freedom and standing toe to toe with them. We have to put Australia under pressure."
As for his own well-being after an operation on a torn meniscus in his right knee, Flintoff appears far from confident about his chances of returning in time for England's Twenty20 campaign next month.
"The specialist is pleased with my progress. But I'm still a while away from running - another week-and-a-half or so," he reported.
"One of the things we have to be careful about is swelling, so it is constantly icing and monitoring.
"I am in the Twenty20 squad. But to play in that, rehab will have to go well - and I'll have to be a bit lucky as well.
"In another week, I will probably have a better idea of where we are."
