Flower frustrated by hapless England

Andy Flower has delivered a withering assessment of England's ability to make the correct decisions required to be successful at international level.

Stand-in coach Flower, due to have an interview for the job on a permanent basis on his return from the Caribbean, was stunned at England's choice and execution of shots during Friday's humiliating eight-wicket defeat against West Indies at the Kensington Oval, which saw England dismissed 117.

"It was a very, very poor batting display," said Flower. "What happens out there in the middle is the sum of the decisions that people make, and the decisions that batsmen made were very poor decisions."

He added: "It was a quick, bouncy wicket. We'd prepared properly for it; we talked about it and we had very good practice in the nets.

"The succession of pull shots and dismissals are very difficult to explain. It's very frustrating, and I'm sure it's very frustrating for everyone."

He is at a loss to understand why England failed en masse to learn from early mistakes.

"We talk during innings, but I thought it was pretty evident. It was there for all to see that certain shots might have been dangerous on that pitch after (Andrew) Strauss' initial dismissal.

"These guys are grown men playing international cricket, so you expect them to see a very similar thing. I suppose assuming things is dangerous."
