Fortune vows to shoot Hoops to the top

Marc-Antoine Fortune has vowed to score the goals that will allow Celtic to reclaim the Clydesdale Bank Premier League crown.

The 28-year-old French Guiana-born striker became Tony Mowbray's first signing as Hoops boss when he completed a move from Nancy worth a reported £3.8million. He now has his sights set on silverware as Celtic attempt to wrest the title back from bitter rivals Rangers, who triumphed with a domestic double at the end of last season.

"I know Celtic are a club who have been champions and I have come here to be a champion," said Fortune. "I've tried to learn about Celtic and have looked at their website. When I come to a club, I try to learn about it."

He added: "It's my job as a striker to score goals and I want to score here. I want to play good football and make the fans happy."

Fortune is also determined to feature in the Champions League next season by helping Celtic come through a potentially hazardous qualification process.

"I've come here for that," he said. "I don't know who we are going to play but I would like the team to qualify for the Champions League."

Fortune played under Mowbray while on loan at West Brom in the second half of last season.

And, having seen him in action in the Barclays Premier League, the Celtic boss is convinced his new recruit will deliver plenty of goals in the SPL.

"As a centre forward your job is to try to give the team a cutting edge," said Mowbray. "I think Marc does that and he also helps the attacking midfield players. He definitely did that at West Brom and he can do that here at Celtic.

"He has the ability to hold the ball up and his appreciation of runs around him and past him is very good. He is an experienced footballer now and I'm sure he will score goals and help create more opportunities for other players also."
