Foster denies Woods rumours
04 January 2007
New Zealander Steve Williams has caddied for Woods for eight years and has done so well with him that he has even been called his country's highest-earning sportsman.
"A few rumours are flying around, but I've not been approached," said Yorkshireman Foster, a good enough player himself to have held a one-handicap.
The rumour is Williams may step down and that Foster would be the replacement, having impressed Woods when he carried his bag for the 2005 Presidents Cup while Williams' fiancee - now his wife - gave birth.
"I wish I could say it was true because it's the best job in the world - better even than Tiger's," added Foster.
Woods, of course, is in the public gaze and under media scrutiny wherever he goes.
When Woods picked Foster for the Presidents Cup, he said: "He's good at what he does. I've seen him work with Clarkey over the years and he's had some success.
"There were a couple of guys I was considering, but I like his personality. He's very competitive, very feisty and very similar to Stevie."
Williams took over in 1999 from Mike 'Fluff' Cowan, who now works with world number three Jim Furyk.
