Freddie or not?

A decision on Andrew Flintoff's comeback will be made early on Wednesday morning with England not giving up on him for the third Test against West Indies next week.

Flintoff will have a fitness check to assess whether he can play for Lancashire, and in what capacity, in their County Championship match against Sussex at Hove.

A decision was deferred so that any reaction to him bowling for half an hour in the nets on Tuesday afternoon could be assessed.

All-rounder Flintoff has missed the opening two Tests of the npower series against West Indies, which England lead 1-0, with soreness in his left ankle.

Having thrashed the tourists by an innings in the equivalent of two-and-a-half days at Headingley this week, there appears no need to rush the 29-year-old back into the fold.

Getting him prepared for this summer's tougher Test assignment, the three-match series against India beginning in July, would appear a more pressing objective.

But England coach Peter Moores has not lost hope Flintoff will be available for next week's Old Trafford Test.

"You never de-value the people you're playing against," said Moores. "Because sport doesn't do that.

"You look at what you've got available and pick a side you think can do the best job.

"I know he wants to play so I will push the medical team to do the best they possibly can to get him fit enough. Everyone wants a fit Andrew Flintoff."
