Froch eyes up Calzaghe

Carl Froch insisted he would be happy to step up to light-heavyweight if it will secure him a shot at Joe Calzaghe after the Nottingham fighter retained his British super-middleweight title with victory over Robin Reid.

The 30-year-old saw off Runcorn's former WBC champion Reid at Nottingham Arena after a shoulder injury forced the challenger's corner team to retire their man at the end of the fifth round - and, while Calzaghe is calling for a fight with Bernard Hopkins, Froch insists he is willing to move up.

Froch told Sky Sports 1: "I consider myself world class now. I am on Joe Calzaghe's tail at the minute. I want to get that fight with him, that is the big fight for me. I am prepared to step up to light heavyweight to take that fight."

He added: "If Joe Calzaghe doesn't move up to light-heavy, I'll be knocking on his door saying 'Let's get it on' even in Wales if need be.

"There are other fights out there for me - Jurgen Breahmer and Christian Sannavia - but Joe Calzaghe is the big one for me.

"That's the one we want and I'd be happy to step up to light-heavyweight if needed. I'd be even sharper there. I'm not that interested in boxing Kessler at the moment but Joe Calzaghe's the big one. That's big bucks."
