Gerrard praises European spirit

Steven Gerrard claims Liverpool are "everyone's nightmare" in Europe due to their never-say-die attitude.

The Anfield skipper is relishing his side's Champions League showdown with AC Milan in a repeat of the 2005 final.

Gerrard said: "We haven't done well domestically but we are some side in Europe. We are everybody's nightmare because we never know when we are beaten and that is a great attitude to have. It would be magic to win it again."

Chelsea and Barcelona have both bitten the dust along the way as Liverpool have raised their game in the competition.

After beating England's champions in a penalty shootout on Tuesday, Gerrard said: "It's superb to be there twice in three years. It doesn't matter whatever team we face. Lifting the cup crossed my mind as soon as we scored the last penalty against Chelsea."

Liverpool won the penalty shootout 4-1 after Jose Reina saved two of Chelsea's with Dirk Kuyt getting the winner.

Gerrard said: "There is nothing worse for a player especially when the manager points to you and tells you are on a penalty.

"You need big players to stand up and take responsibility and our penalty-takers did. If you look back over the two legs it was close. You can't say either side deserved to lose.

"Chelsea had very good chances in the first leg but we created some in the second leg so I think it was even-stevens and it was sad it went to penalties."
