Giants fail to clinch Fien move

Huddersfield have failed in a bid to sign New Zealand's World Cup-winning half-back Nathan Fien.

The Giants turned to the 29-year-old Fien after their attempt to sign former Canberra half-back Todd Carney was scuppered by the British High Commission's decision to reject the player's visa application.

But Fien has been assured he still has a future with the Auckland-based New Zealand Warriors and will compete with the returning Stacey Jones for the number seven jersey.

Fien, who has played 96 matches for the Warriors since moving from North Queensland Cowboys in 2005, had asked to be released from the remaining 12 months of his contract so that he could take up the offer of a three-year deal with Huddersfield.
