Godwin facing lay-off
09 January 2007
The 25-year-old hooker suffered the injury when he was tackled by Scott Murrell in the first half of the Black and Whites' 30-20 engage Super League win over rivals Hull KR on Sunday. Despite the injury, the ex-Wigan man stayed on the field for the whole of the second half and played a key role in the victory.
"When I stood up my foot felt strange," he said. "But I had a jab at half-time and felt great in the second half. It was only when I went for an X-ray that I discovered I had a broken bone."
Godwin's injury will be of great concern to coach Peter Sharp, who is now without a recognised hooker for the visit of Harlequins on Friday.
First-choice number nine Richard Swain has missed a month of action with a back injury while the New Zealand utility man Motu Tony is covering for broken jaw victim Shaun Briscoe at full-back.
Under-21 player Danny Houghton may well be handed his senior debut as a result with Sharp admitting: "Danny is certainly one of the players in my thoughts.
"He is a good youngster, playing very well and consistently for the Under-21s and I would be confident about handing him a chance."
Mathew Head, who suffered an AC joint (shoulder) on what was his Hull debut, is also a doubt for the Harlequins game.
The 25-year-old stand-off has a history of both knee and shoulder injuries from his time with Australian side St George-Illawarra.
