Gomarsall irked by Ashton snub
03 January 2008
Gomarsall, 33, was dropped by Brian Ashton after the side laboured to a 23-19 RBS 6 Nations victory over Italy and, three weeks after starting in Rome, he is now not even considered one of the country's top three scrum-halves.
"I feel hard done by and that it is slightly unjustified that I got the bullet," Gomarsall said.
He added: "I looked at my performance against Italy and I thought I played well. It was frustrating in that game because of the slow ball and the referee not penalising Italy as we had hoped. And then I get pushed aside.
"Scrum-halves know they will always be in the firing line. If a coach can't put his finger on why the performance isn't good then you get the bullet. As a nine, it is just a fact of life.
"Brian has been open and honest with me and I have been open and honest with him. Clearly I am not happy about the situation and he knows that.
"All that was said was that they felt I had lost my spark. In a way I had. I was very frustrated by the way we had been playing."
