His 71st minute effort not only puts Carlisle in pole position in the race for second spot behind Swansea but could inflict serious damage on Forest's own promotion ambitions.

The goal came when Forest keeper Paul Smith came out of his area to try and claim a ball aimed at Carlisle's Grant Smith but he failed to gather it and it spun free for Graham to turn it on off the far post.

Before that Forest had enjoyed the bulk of the pressure and the opportunities but Carlisle keeper Keiren Westwood brilliantly turned over a header by Julian Bennett and later in the game had to claw away a superb 35-yard free-kick by Kris Commons.

Grant Holt almost rescued a point for Forest a minute from time but his volley flew wide.
