Great day for Britain in Poznan

30 January 2009
GB Rowing's performance director David Tanner labelled them the "boat of the day" in Poznan, but they had significant competition for that honour.
Northern Irish sculler Alan Campbell won silver but pushed New Zealander Mahe Drysdale so close that he had to set a new world record to win a fourth consecutive title. Campbell also went below the previous record time.
In the women's event, Katherine Grainger pulled off the most unexpected result of the day with a silver medal after just one season.
There were silvers too for Andrew Triggs Hodge and Pete Reed in the men's pair and the women's double scull of Anna Bebington and Annabel Vernon.
Britain also won two golds in the adaptive classes through defending champion Tom Aggar in the single scull and in the mixed coxed four to finish top of the overnight medal table.
Partridge, Langridge and Egington were all part of the men's eight which was beaten into second place at last summer's Olympic Games and that memory fired them on.
"Getting silver last year at the Olympic Games left a bitter taste in my mouth so to win is amazing", said stroke Langridge.
