Gunn handed Canaries reins

Norwich have named Bryan Gunn as their new manager until the end of the season.

Gunn, 45, has been handed the reins at Carrow Road after Glenn Roeder was sacked last Wednesday following the club's slump to fourth from bottom in the Coca-Cola Championship table and their defeat to Charlton in the FA Cup.

Former goalkeeper Gunn was placed in temporary charge and guided the Canaries to a thumping 4-0 win over Barnsley on Saturday. Ian Crook will join as first-team coach with John Deehan returning to the club as chief scout.

Gunn made 477 appearances for the Canaries after joining from Aberdeen in 1986 and had been involved under Roeder in the role of head of player recruitment.

He told the club's official website www.canaries.co.uk: "I'm a very proud man.

"Saturday was an amazing experience and to be given the opportunity whetted my appetite and left me with a serious decision to make.

"I have been very fortunate during my 22-year association with this club to have held a variety of roles - but this is the pinnacle.

"There is still a very difficult job to be done this season but we have a great opportunity to move forward."
