Gunners complete Sagna signing

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Bacary Sagna on a long-term contract from French club Auxerre.

The fee for the 24-year-old defender, who has been in the France squad but has not yet earned a cap, is undisclosed.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said: "We are delighted to have signed Bacary Sagna. He is a very capable defender and has played consistently well for Auxerre in recent seasons."

Sagna was rated at £6million in France towards the end of last season when interest from the Premier League emerged.

Wenger anticipates playing his new signing across the defence or even in midfield, and Sagna becomes his fourth signing of the summer after the arrivals of Eduardo Da Silva, Havard Nordtveit and Lukasz Fabianski.

Sagna, who will wear the number three shirt vacated by Ashley Cole last sason, cited Wenger as a factor in his decision.

He told the club's official website: "Arsène Wenger is a major reason why I have signed for Arsenal. He is an excellent manager with a fantastic record and I am really looking forward to working with him.

"I'm also looking forward to playing at Emirates Stadium and winning trophies for the Club and all the supporters."
