Hamilton claims front row slot

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton insists he is not daunted by the prospect of starting from the front row in Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix after securing second place in qualifying, behind Felipe Massa.

Ferrari's driver Massa will take pole for the second successive race at the Sakhir circuit while Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso make up the rest of the front four as they line up third and fourth on the grid respectively.

The 22-year-old Hamilton, who finished fourth in qualifying for both Australia and Malaysia, said: "I feel quite relaxed about it. It feels natural and I am extremely happy to be where I am."

He added: "It is what I have been working towards for 13 years and to be finally here and to be performing quite well I am really happy with myself. Sunday's race is going to be really tough.

"We have definitely made some steps forward obviously in the last race and coming here we seem to be stronger than we were during testing. We have closed the gap on Ferrari.

"I think we did a great job but Felipe was a little bit quicker, but still I am sure we will have strong race and it is going to be interesting to see what happens at the first corner."

Barring any major errors on Sunday, Hamilton is likely to be climbing the podium for the third time this season, an achievement that would see him make Formula One history.

Such a feat would draw comparisons with the achievements of Tiger Woods, who has repeatedly rewrote history with his golfing successes.

And though Hamilton refused to accept he is in the same league as Woods, he admitted he hopes to emulate the American's achievements.

He added: "I'm not Tiger Woods, I am Lewis Hamilton, it is completely different. It is an honour to be compared to someone of such great calibre but I am here for the job here. I hope I can have as significant impact on Formula One as Tiger has had on golf."
