Hamilton out to delight home fans

Lewis Hamilton is hoping to send 85,000 "amazing" home fans happy by winning the British Grand Prix after leading Friday's first practice session and winding up fourth in the second.

The 22-year-old rookie, top of the world championship table, is attempting to put to one side the distraction of being the star attraction and focus on taking the chequered flag in his McLaren, in front of a sell-out Silverstone crowd.

"To come to your home grand prix and race in front of your home crowd, I think it's going to be amazing this weekend," he beamed.

"On a race weekend, there's so much attention - even outside the racing world. At home you lose almost all of your privacy. I'm just as normal as all of you.

"I am a very competitive person. I always want to do well for myself and my family. I'm very determined to win at all times, and making my family proud is something I've always wanted to do."

Hamilton was outpaced by the Ferraris of Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa in the second session, as he had been during French Grand Prix last weekend.
