Hamilton set to miss rest of Six Nations

Scotland lock forward Jim Hamilton could miss the rest of the RBS 6 Nations with a badly sprained right ankle suffered in the defeat by Ireland at Croke Park.

Leicester's Hamilton was carried off with what was thought to be a broken leg in the closing stages of the 34-13 defeat in Dublin but x-rays have now revealed the ankle injury.

After having his x-rays Hamilton was examined by both Scotland team doctor Sam Hewitt and surgeon Gordon Mackay and Dr. Hewitt said: "The x-rays show that Jim has a badly sprained right ankle which is now immobilised in a boot."

He added: "Jim will be subject to ongoing assessment but, at this stage, is unlikely to play any further part in this year's championship."

Scotland have injury worries over three other players following the defeat to Ireland.

Forwards Kelly Brown and Euan Murray, both with rib injuries, and Scott MacLeod (shoulder) are due to report for further medical assessment at Murrayfield on Monday.
