Hamilton was examined by surgeon Richard Nutton at the Spire Murrayfield Hospital on Sunday night.
Scotland team doctor James Robson said: "On first examination it may well be that Jim has had a bleed around the covering of the bone. He may require further investigation later in the week but we are proceeding with his rehabilitation at present."
Scotland centre Graeme Morrison is recovering from an ankle injury and will be with the Glasgow physiotherapy team this week, but is expected to resume full training within one week.
Other players with "significant bumps and bruises" - Simon Danielli, Phil Godman, Mike Blair, Moray Low, Jason White and Kelly Brown - are expected to resume training in the next two to three days.
Meanwhile, prop Euan Murray could make his return in the next match against Italy at home on February 28.
The Scotland medical team are "cautiously optimistic" he will have recovered from the rib problems that have sidelined him for the opening two games of the championship.
