Hankey wipes floor with Walton

Ted Hankey cruised into the semi-finals of the BDO World Professional Darts Championships with a 5-1 win over John Walton.

Hankey stormed into a 4-0 lead at Lakeside Country Club and although Walton returned from the interval to take the fifth set, Hankey wrapped up a commanding victory.

The 2000 champion took the opening two sets and snatched the third with a 76 finish on the bull after Walton crucially missed four darts at a double.

Hankey won the next set as well despite amazingly missing 12 darts at doubles after being on course for an 11-dart leg.

"I so much wanted to be in the semi-finals, it was unreal," Hankey told BBC2.

"The first session I played well but the last two sets I was thinking too much, but John was struggling because he has a problem with his shoulder.

"I'm over the moon. I've never lost a semi-final, it's the only round I've never lost in."

The second quarter-final was a much tighter affair with Martin Adams eventually battling to a 5-4 victory over Gary Robson.

Adams raced into a 3-0 lead but Robson hit back to make it 3-1 before the interval and won the next two sets as well. Adams regained the lead in the seventh set but Robson forced a decider courtesy of a 13-dart leg.

Both players were clearly nervous in the closing stages and missed numerous darts at doubles before Adams eventually hit double five to seal victory.
