Harmison hernia a concern for England

England have confirmed Steve Harmison has a hernia problem which may result in their premier strike bowler undergoing surgery.

The 28-year-old Durham paceman was diagnosed with "a non-serious hernia" by England's medical staff.

Andrew Walpole, England's media relations manager, confirmed: "It will require surgery at some stage but it's not currently affecting his performance."

Were Harmison to undergo the procedure immediately after the series with West Indies, it would almost certainly rule him out of the first two Tests against India at Lord's and Trent Bridge.
