Hart calls for Pompey urgency

Portsmouth caretaker manager Paul Hart believes the club should appoint a permanent replacement for Tony Adams "as soon as possible".

Hart could be in charge of Portsmouth for Saturday's Barclays Premier League match against Manchester City at Fratton Park.

The south-coast strugglers have dropped to within a point of the relegation zone after taking just two points from their last nine games and Hart told Sky Sports News: "It's a very, very good football club and we're on the fringe of doing an awful lot, so (bringing in a new manager) as soon as possible would be great."

He added the players had trained well but the departure of Adams, who had less than four months in charge, was still hanging over the club.

Of the training, Hart said: "I certainly enjoyed it and I think the players seemed to.

"They've been very supportive and gone about it the right way, so I'm delighted at the moment.

"It's not a very pleasant time for anybody. It happens far too often in my opinion but it does happen and we've just got to get on with things."

With City looking like getting out of trouble themselves, Portsmouth are aware the list of likely relegation candidates is coming down.

They need to strike form and Hart knows three points on Saturday would lift everyone at Portsmouth.

He said: "It's a big game and we certainly need a result but the players know that as well."
