Haye keen on Klitschko contest
10 January 2008
Haye will move up to challenge the big boys after adding Maccarinelli's WBO title to the WBC and WBA cruiserweight belts he already owned - and top of his agenda is IBF and WBO king Klitschko.
Haye said: "I'd fight Wladimir Klitschko in his next fight. I watched his pitiful effort in his last fight against Sultan Ibragimov which was embarrassing. He won't be looking forward to fighting someone like me."
He added: "I feel great, I've achieved everything I can in the cruiserweight division and I'm ready to go up there and start taking on the heavyweights. I want to fight the best possible opponents and knock them out.
"I'll fight them anywhere. I'll go to Russia or Las Vegas to fight them if necessary. As long as there's a ring and the referee can count to 10, I'll be all right."
Haye won one of the biggest all-British world title fights in years by clubbing the Welshman with a big right hand and following up with another shot which left Maccarinelli reeling around the ring.
Referee John Keane had no option but to wave the contest off and while Haye duly held court with his plans of heavyweight domination, Maccarinelli was forced to face the harsh reality of an opportunity wasted.
"Enzo didn't follow the game plan," said his disappointed trainer Enzo Calzaghe.
"No disrespect to David Haye, but Enzo made a stupid mistake, held his chin in the air and beat himself."
