26 January 2007
The Rugby Football League will today announce the venue for the mid-season Test against France in June, with Headingley the anticipated choice after plans to play the match in France fell through.
Smith was last month appointed as Brian Noble's successor on a part-time basis and, in the meantime, is continuing in his job as Leeds head coach until his contract runs out at the end of the domestic season.
He will become full-time national coach in time for the three-match Test series against New Zealand in October and November and will today outline his plans for the one-off match against the French.
It will be France's first match against Great Britain since they lost 42-12 in Agen in 2001 and their first in England since their record 72-6 defeat at Leeds in 1993.
