Heidfeld calls for changes

Canadian Grand Prix runner-up Nick Heidfeld has called for changes to be made to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve following the horrific crash endured by his BMW Sauber team-mate Robert Kubica.

Kubica, who escaped serious injury, clipped the Toyota of Jarno Trulli as their cars headed towards the L'Epingle hairpin on lap 28. The Pole's car went airborne and plunged nose first into a wall before barrel-rolling across the track.

"I don't know 100% but I think the circuit was breaking loose, especially in turn 10, and if that could be rectified for next year that would already be a big step," he said.

Heidfeld was initially unsure of his team-mate's condition as he continued racing following the incident.

"It was difficult to get some information," he said. "You just saw the car on the side with nothing left. I was happy to hear that Robert is okay."
