Hendersons go to court over regulations

Castleford hooker Andrew Henderson is to take the Rugby Football League to court in a bid to overturn new regulations on overseas players.

Henderson, 29, and younger brother Kevin, who plays for Wakefield, are contesting rules introduced for next season which limit Super League clubs on the number of players they can have who did not come through the system.

Andrew Henderson, who is out of contract at Castleford, told the League Express newspaper: "We're taking the RFL to court because we're still at a very unfair disadvantage."

Although the Henderson brothers were born in Torquay to a Glasgow father and are in Scotland's squad for the World Cup, they emigrated to Australia as youngsters and therefore count as "non federation-trained" players.

The RFL recently relaxed the rules, giving dispensation to players who were with their current clubs when the regulations were introduced, but that will be of little use to the Hendersons if they have to move clubs.

Andrew Henderson added: "We shouldn't be on any quota at all because we're 100% British. We just happened to move to Australia when I was seven, but we were born in Torquay to a Scottish father and an English mother."

The brothers have enlisted the help of former Bradford chairman Chris Caisley, a Leeds-based lawyer, to fight their case.
