Henin hammering shocks Serena

Serena Williams admitted feeling "violated" after being on the receiving end of a straight-sets hammering by Justine Henin in the quarter-finals of the French Open on Tuesday.

The American's dreams of a second Roland Garros title were ruined as a ruthless Henin swept to a clinical and unexpectedly easy 6-4 6-3 victory on Philippe Chatrier court.

And a despondent Williams gave a stark appraisal of her performance by saying: "I just pretty much stood back and let her take advantage of me. And I feel violated. I didn't take my opportunities and I didn't do anything I was supposed to do."

She added: "Nothing worked. Sometimes, you just have days like this. I don't really know what it was. I just left my notebook in the locker room."

Henin, who remains on course for her third straight French Open title, was completely dominant, and admitted: "I thought I did a good job and I did everything I could to control the match. From the first point until the end, I was very focused. I was concentrated and aggressive when I had to be."

She next plays Jelena Jankovic, who was one of two Serbs to book their places in the last four on Tuesday. The in-form 22-year-old claimed a 6-3 7-5 victory over the Czech Republic's Nicole Vaidisova.

In the bottom half, Ana Ivanovic completed a great day for Serbia by beating Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-0 3-6 6-1 to set up a last-four date with Maria Sharapova.

Ivanovic, seeded seven, looked in particularly good shape, although Kuznetsova struggled with abdominal pains during the final set and was not at the races as the Serb ran away with the decider.

Sharapova, meanwhile, was impressive in emerging from her all-Russian clash against Anna Chakvetadze a 6-3 6-4 winner.

Sharapova broke her compatriot three times in the contest to book her first appearance in the semi-finals at Roland Garros.
