Henman and Bhupathi through

Tim Henman and Mahesh Bhupathi made the ideal start to the Legg Mason Tennis Classic in Washington after they defeated Korea's Hyung-Taik Lee and American Michael Russell in the first round of the Men's Doubles.

The duo recorded a 6-2 7-5 result to secure their passage to the second round while the 32-year-old Henman begins his singles campaign on Tuesday against American wildcard John Isner.

Wimbledon mixed doubles champion Jamie Murray and partner Eric Butorac were knocked out of the doubles after losing 7-6 2-6 10-6 to Wesley Moody and Todd Perry on Court One.

Jonathan Elrich and Andy Ram secured their place in the second round with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Jordan Kerr and Jim Thomas.
