Henman handed tough draw

Tim Henman faces a difficult opening match to what could be the final grand slam of his career after being drawn against No.27 seed Dmitry Tursunov of Russia in the first round of the 2007 US Open.

Henman, 32, will hold a press conference on Thursday in New York to outline his plans for the rest of the year following speculation he is set to retire following Great Britain's forthcoming Davis Cup tie against Croatia.

The former British number one, now ranked 96th in the world, has won only three times on the ATP Tour this year after another season plagued by back problems.

Now he faces Tursunov at Flushing Meadow when the US Open gets under way next Monday with a potential second-round tie against either Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France or Spain's Oscar Hernandez with Rafael Nadal lying in wait in the third round.

If British number one Andy Murray feels he has overcome a longstanding wrist injury, the world number 19 will play a qualifier in his first round match in New York.

Murray has been seeded 19th for next week's US Open but has not played for three months, missing the French Open and Wimbledon in the process.

If Murray, a former US Open junior champion, gets past the qualifier he could face Swedish veteran Jonas Bjorkman or Argentina's Juan-Pablo Guzman whose compatriot Guillermo Canas, the 14th seed, may be his opponent in round three.

A possible showdown with fourth seed Nikolay Davydenko is possible in the last 16.
