Henman: No worries for Murray

Tim Henman has backed Andy Murray to emerge from his current injury gloom and go on to become the first British man to win a Grand Slam title since the great Fred Perry.

Murray is currently sidelined with a serious wrist injury which has already cost him his place in the French Open and may also rule him out of Wimbledon this year.

Henman told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek: "There is no doubt at this moment in time he has the tools and capability of winning a Grand Slam. That is the challenge for him and I for one believe he can do it."

He added: "Nothing is inevitable but at this moment in time he is one of the very best players in the world and looking at his age bracket there is probably him, Novak Djokovic and Richard Gasquet who are the best of a young group.

"He is only 20 but he is already in the top 10 in the world and he is on such a steep learning curve.

"But when you have got Brad (Gilbert) in your corner at that age, with his experience it is a great combination."

However despite Murray's obvious desire to return for the grass-court season he has been warned against rushing back by Davis Cup captain John Lloyd, who would prefer to see him safeguard the rest of his season.

Lloyd told the Mail On Sunday: "If Andy has injured tendons, or ligaments, it usually takes a minimum of two months to recover.

"We all want to see Andy playing at Wimbledon but I'd hope he wouldn't jeopardise his long-term career to answer an obvious desire to get out there and play now.

"I'm sure those closest to him will ensure all the proper precautions are taken."
