Hewitt enjoys perfect start

Lleyton Hewitt breezed into the second round of the US Open with a straight-sets victory over American Amer Delic on Tuesday.

Hewitt, seeded 16, needed just 97 minutes to sweep past Delic in a 6-2 6-4 6-2 win, claiming an impressive 37 out of 39 points on his first serve.

The 2001 champion is playing his third tournament of the summer under new coach and compatriot Tony Roche. Both previous events ended in defeats to Roche's former charge Roger Federer, but Hewitt has enjoyed a kinder draw in New York.

The first fellow seed he is due to meet is 23rd seed Juan Monaco of Argentina in the third round.
