Higgins through to semi-finals

Two-time champion John Higgins secured his place in the semi-finals of the Masters at Wembley with a battling 6-4 win over Ding Junhui.

The Scotsman led for much of the match and at 4-2 up looked to be cruising to a routine victory.

However, a momentary lapse in the eighth frame, when he failed to get a good position on the black and missed, allowed Ding to unexpectedly level the scores. He recovered in brilliant fashion, though, posting a 127 clearance to lead 5-4 before clinching victory in the 10th frame.

Higgins will now face Mark Selby, who saw off Mark Allen in a nailbiting thriller which went to the wire before the defending champion prevailed 6-5.

Selby recovered from a shaky spell early on and fought back when Allen was within one frame of victory, but was not without his share of luck in the deciding frame as he fluked a red while escaping a snooker.

Selby then missed a straightforward red to hand the advantage back to Allen, but the Northern Irishman also fell victim to nerves, missing a red in a corner pocket.

The Englishman capitalised, sealing victory with a break of 33.

"I had to hold myself together and I've proved to myself again that under pressure I'm a good player," Selby told BBC2.

"I'm not putting a lot of pressure on myself but just going out there to enjoy it.

"There are so many great players out there that I'm just coming here to enjoy it and to still be in it at this stage is great."
