Hoggard missed the series-clinching victory at Old Trafford and the previous encounter at Headingley with a groin injury, but was deemed fit enough to return for the final Test squad.

Hoggard told BBC Radio Five Live: "I felt good in the nets, I went over to Old Trafford to train with the boys and had a good net session. Everything is feeling good. Hopefully I can put myself in the frame for the last Test match."

Hoggard also played down pictures of captain Michael Vaughan on Wednesday in an apparently drunken state following the record-breaking win in Manchester.

"I haven't seen them but I'm sure, being the most successful England captain in history, he's allowed to have a drink or two. Congratulations go to him. Everyone seems to rally round him when he is on the pitch."
