Hoggard inspires Yorkshire

Matthew Hoggard starred as Yorkshire moved to the top of the LV County Championship Division One after bowling out Worcestershire for 129 at Headingley.

Hoggard, making his last Championship showing before joining up with the England squad to face the West Indies, took five for 34 - including the wickets of Phil Jaques (38) and Graham Hick (11).

Worcestershire were forced to follow on and home skipper Darren Gough was quickly celebrating the wicket of Stephen Moore for nine, leaving the visitors still trailing by 363 runs at 29 for one when bad light and rain ended proceedings.

Andrew Flintoff ended a disappointing run of batting form as he hit 61 against Hampshire as rain again dominated play at the Rose Bowl. The all-rounder hit six fours to move Lancashire to 159 for six on the third day before Hampshire skipper Shane Warne trapped him lbw.

Rain had a similar say on matters at the Brit Oval, where Surrey took their score to 226 for one against Warwickshire.

Scott Newman and Jonathan Batty both scored well in the morning, extending their opening partnership to 117. Newman was eventually caught by possible England selection Tim Ambrose for 73 off the bowling off Dale Steyn, but Batty (82no) remained on course for his first century of the season alongside Mark Ramprakash (44).

Durham's England players were enjoying similar success to their national team-mates against Kent at the Riverside.

Bowlers Liam Plunkett and Steve Harmison began the good work, claiming two wickets apiece as Kent fell seven runs short of Durham's first-innings tally of 407.

Resuming the day on 361 for six, Harmison removed Yasir Arafat (17) and James Tredwell (25) while Plunkett accounted for Andrew Hall (42) and Ryan McLaren (one). England batsman Paul Collingwood and Michael Di Venuto both made 58, before falling to Arafat and Andrew Hall respectively in the second innings.

Dale Benkenstein (66) and Garry Park (57) were still at the crease at stumps with the north-east side 311 runs ahead at 304 for six.
