England captain Michael Vaughan has confirmed swing bowler Matthew Hoggard will miss the second Test against Sri Lanka starting in Colombo on Sunday.

Yorkshireman Hoggard has succumbed to the back injury which plagued him in the first Test loss earlier this week and is not deemed fit enough for five days' intensive cricket.

Talking about the selection dilemma which faces the tourists, Vaughan said: "I guess it's made slightly easier because Matthew Hoggard is unavailable."
