Horne fixes it for Hull

Relieved Hull boss Richard Agar singled out Richard Horne for special praise after his side ended their six-match losing run.

Horne successfully switched to full-back to play a key role in the 18-14 victory at Salford City Reds.

"Because of our injury situation Richard rang me up in the week and offered to play full-back," Agar said. "He said he'd fix it and he did."

Agar also paid tribute to Danny Washbrook's performance and said: "We needed to dig out a win and I was impressed with our resilience.

"It was bang, bang and we were 10-0 down but to win was a pretty good effort. I thought Kirk Yeaman's try disallowed by the video ref was a try and I was bemused when their scrum-half dived on our back row to get the ball near the end."

Salford boss Shaun McRae refused to blame goal kicker John Wilshere, who could only land one of his four attempts.

That was allowed by the referee after the touch judges differed over whether it had gone over, and a similar ruling had to be made by referee Jamie Leahy in the second half.

This time Leahy ruled out a Wilshere penalty and McRae said: "I could not tell whether they were goals or not, touch judges have to be independent.

"Goal kicking was the difference but as a former kicker I'm not going to blame him for us losing the match. We weren't smart enough at times in the first half and we lost control of the game.

"Darrell Goulding made a big play for his intercept and is fitting in very well."
