Hoy celebrates gold hat-trick

Chris Hoy has become the first British athlete for 100 years to win three gold medals at a single Olympics with victory in the men's individual sprint.

The 32-year-old got the better of team-mate Jason Kenny, who added the silver medal to the gold he won in the team sprint.

Hoy, Scotland's most successful Olympian, earlier won gold in the men's team sprint and keirin.

Hoy's victory brings the total medals won by Britain's cyclists to 14 - with a strong gold contender to come via Shanaze Reade in the BMX.

Hoy said: "It's the most unbelievable feeling. You cross the line and all the pressure and expectation evaporates and it's like nothing else you've ever felt.

"To have someone who's a team-mate, who's only just got on the team, he's going to be the best man in the world in a very short space of time.

"It's about the process and the performance, breaking it down to the technical elements.

"That's why the emotions come out at the end, it just erupts out of you.

"As a team we've gone well beyond what was expected."
