Hughes hails McCarthy attitude

The misfiring South African did not travel with the squad for Saturday's Barclays Premier League victory at Sunderland, with manager Mark Hughes preferring him to try to rediscover his form out of the first-team spotlight.
"Benni is a top-quality striker with top European experience," Hughes said. "He has worked very hard in the past few days and shown a great attitude to the extra things we are asking of him. He will be involved against Larissa."
McCarthy, 29, made a huge impact at Rovers in his debut Premier League season last term, netting 24 times in all competitions.
But after scoring only once in his last six games, he lost his place to summer signing Roque Santa Cruz and rising star Matt Derbyshire.
Hughes will need all the strikers he can muster if his side are to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit against the Greek opponents.
Rovers need to win by three clear goals to ensure they avoid a shock early exit from the competition and Hughes has challenged his players to prove their European pedigree by turning the tie around.
He said: "I just sense the team and the squad are really looking forward to this game. It's a big challenge for them.
"If we're going to view ourselves as a team that can cope with European football then we've got to overcome Larissa."
