Hull boosted by Berrigan capture

Hull have signed Australian Test utility player Shaun Berrigan, who becomes their second overseas signing for next season, in a four-year deal.

The 28-year-old Brisbane Broncos hooker, half-back or centre, who has won 12 caps, will join fellow countryman Adam Dykes at the KC Stadium in time for the start of the 2008 campaign.

"I have had a fantastic career at the Broncos, winning premierships, playing for Queensland and of course for Australia," he said. "I am really excited to be joining Hull FC and playing in the Super League and Challenge Cup."

He added: "I am excited by their plans. I believe the club has a fantastic future and I am looking forward to being a part of it for the next four years."

Berrigan has scored 74 tries in 173 appearances in the National Rugby League and was a key figure in the Broncos' Grand Final triumph last October.

Dykes has been recruited to fill the gap created by the departure of stand-off Paul Cooke to neighbours Hull KR and Berrigan will help replace veteran hooker Richard Swain, who is retiring at the end of the season.

Hull coach Peter Sharp said: "I am very excited to have signed Shaun, who will bring speed, toughness and leadership to our team.

"He is an exceptional rugby league player and a tremendous acquisition for Hull FC."
