Hussain tells KP to wise-up

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has told Kevin Pietersen to think before he speaks.

Pietersen was recently quoted as saying he was "at the end of his tether" and ready to leave England's tour of the Caribbean, and Hussain wants him to become more "streetwise".

"He really must start thinking before he talks," Hussain wrote in Tuesday's Daily Mail.

"Kevin must remember that he has been in Barbados, one of the great places of the world, and that there are thousands of cricket lovers at home who would willingly swap places with him," he added.

"He is a fantastic player with a great cricket brain and is not a bad guy.

"But if I was captain I would drag him to one side and say: 'Enough's enough. Let your batting do the talking. And when you do the press make sure you are consistent and think about the impact of what you are saying.'"

Pietersen is still smarting from the manner of his exit from the captaincy, after he fell out with coach Peter Moores. But Hussain feels the player does not make life easy for himself.

He wrote: "This is the man who said that he could work with Peter Moores when he became captain but quickly said he had to go.

"This is the man who wanted Andy Flower sacked, but who now wants to work with him. This is the man who was an ambassador for Allen Stanford and then called him a sleazebag.

"It is naivety, really. Remarkably, Kevin is not as streetwise at times as he could be. But I would always have him in my side."
