03 January 2007
The contest was reduced to a 35-over affair after three rain interruptions cut play by three hours and, after 27 overs, Ireland were 104 for four.
After being put into bat, they lost their first wicket in the third over without a run on the board when Jeremy Bray, their leading batsman in the tournament, was trapped lbw by Shaun Pollock.
After the second rain delay, Pollock struck again when he had William Porterfield caught by Jacques Kallis for 14 with the score on 31.
Ireland also lost Eoin Morgan (28) and Niall O Brien (25) by the 23rd over with the 77 runs.
Morgan hit four fours in his 50-ball knock before he was caught by Ashwell Prince off Andrew Hall's bowling with the score on 63 in the 20th over.
O Brien struck three fours before his 37-ball innings ended when he was caught by Herschelle Gibbs of Charl Langeveldt's bowling.
Andre Botha (10) and Andre White (23) were at the crease.
