Italy and France in 'group of death'

World Cup finalists Italy and France have been drawn together again in what is unquestionably the Euro 2008 "group of death" for next summer's tournament in Switzerland and Austria.

Italy edged France to World Cup glory in Germany last year, although France since gathered a measure of revenge with four points from their two head-to-head qualifying games.

Marco van Basten's Holland and Romania, who outperformed the Dutch in qualifying, complete a tough line up in Group C.

In Group A, Switzerland will renew hostilities with Turkey whom they beat in a bitter two-legged World Cup qualification play-off in 2005.

Turkey were forced to play games on neutral territory and players from both sides were banned following the brawl in Istanbul that followed Switzerland's qualification.

Euro 2004 runners-up Portugal and the Czech Republic are the other Group A teams and Switzerland will play the Czechs in the tournament opener in Basle on June 7.

Germany will clash with neighbours Austria as well as Poland and Croatia in Group B.

In Group D, defending champions Greece will face Spain and Russia - both opponents in the group phase when they won the title in Portugal - while Sweden are also in that pool.
