The 36-year-old has been in brilliant form for the south coast club this term after joining from Manchester City during the close season and has been rewarded with a new deal, which also allows him to extend it for another year if he opts to play on.
"The last year has been great and I am delighted to have signed the extension to my contract," he told www.pompeyfc.co.uk. "I have enjoyed my football here, and with the plans for the new stadium the future for Pompey is looking very good on and off the field."
He added: "To be part of that future is exciting and I'm greatly looking forward to things developing."
