Suarez Navarro has been one of the stars of the Paris tournament on her grand slam debut but ran out of steam against the third seed, who eased to a 6-3 6-2 win in just 73 minutes.
The flashes of brilliance 19-year-old Suarez Navarro has shown to eliminate seeds Amelie Mauresmo and Flavia Pennetta in earlier rounds were conspicuous by their absence on Tuesday as her one-handed backhand - such a potent weapon on her run to the last eight - started to misfire badly.
Suarez Navarro saved two match points in the final game but could not repel a third as her backhand once again failed her as she fired long.
Earlier, Ivanovic booked her place in the last four with an assured victory against 10th seed Patty Schnyder.
The second-seeded Serbian, the favourite for the women's crown following the elimination of top seed Maria Sharapova on Monday, rarely looked flustered as she dispatched the Swiss 6-3 6-2.
Ivanovic is yet to drop a set at Roland Garros this year as she bids to claim her maiden grand slam title.
In fourth-round action earlier in the day, Svetlana Kuznetsova wasted little time in booking her place in the last eight after completing a straight-sets win over Victoria Azarenka.
The Russian fourth seed was leading 6-2 2-2 when bad light stopped play on Monday evening and needed just five games on Tuesday to polish off the 16th seed from Belarus, 6-2 6-3.
The 2006 runner-up will face unseeded Estonian Kaia Kanepi, who was tied at one set all with the Czech Republic's Petra Kvitova overnight. Kanepi, who dispatched sixth seed Anna Chakvetadze in the second round, eased away to a 6-3 3-6 6-1 triumph when the match resumed.
