Jayasuriya faces Sri Lanka axe

Sanath Jayasuriya has been dropped from Sri Lanka's one-day squad for April's three-match series against West Indies, according to selection committee sources.

Jayasuriya is Sri Lanka's most experienced limited overs players, but is expected to be replaced by 21-year-old Mahela Udawatte.

The 38-year-old has failed to pass 50 in his last 20 one-day innings, scoring 305 runs at an average of 15.25.

Spinner Muttiah Muralitharan is also expected to be rested, while seamer Lasith Malinga is believed to have suffered a knee injury that will require three to four weeks rest.

All rounder Kaushalya Weeraratne and spinners Ajantha Mendis and Malinga Bandara are expected to be in contention to face the West Indies.

The three match one-day series begins in Port of Spain on April 10.
