Opener Malinda Warnapura struck his maiden Test century on Saturday with Michael Vandort and Kumar Sangakkara adding half-centuries to put the tourists in a commanding position at Providence Stadium.
Resuming on 269 for four, Sri Lanka only lost Tillakaratne Dilshan but added just 61 runs in an uneventful morning session.
Dilshan was trapped leg before wicket by Jerome Taylor for 20 to become the fast bowler's fourth victim of the innings.
Mahela Jayawardene survived a scare when he was dropped on 43 by Chris Gayle at first slip, but took advantage of his let-off and had moved onto 59 not out by the interval.
Prasanna Jayawardene, at the other end, was unbeaten on 21 at lunch.
