Jensen close to Giants switch

Huddersfield are poised to complete the signing of North Queensland Cowboys player Rod Jensen.

The Cowboys have agreed to release Jensen, who can play at centre or as a back-row forward, and the 28-year-old is waiting for a work permit before flying over to England.

The Giants, the form team of Super League with seven straight wins, have a place available on their overseas quota and room under the salary cap following the departure of Paul Smith earlier this season.

"Rod Jensen is a player we've been looking at for two or three years now," said Huddersfield football manager Stuart Sheard.

Jensen has scored 36 tries in 103 appearances in Australia's National Rugby League, and played alongside current Huddersfield favourites Brad Drew and Jamal Lolesi at Canberra.

Cowboys chief executive Peter Parr said: "Rod is a highly regarded member of the club and this community, so the decision to release him was a very difficult and contentious one.

"In the same breath, the opportunity for Rod to pursue a future in England was right and we did not want to rob him of that request."
