Jewell resigns as Derby boss

The former Wigan boss' departure had been widely anticipated after his failure to attend a post-match press conference following Sunday's 1-0 home defeat against Ipswich.
The club posted a statement on their official website, which read: "Derby County can confirm that the club has parted company with manager Paul Jewell with immediate effect."
It continued: "Paul has taken the decision to leave his role as he believes it is in the best interests of the club, and feels his is no longer in a position to take the club forward."
Jewell's assistant, Chris Hutchings, will take charge of the team for the FA Cup third round tie at Forest Green Rovers and the Carling Cup semi-final against Manchester United.
Jewell took charge at Pride Park 13 months ago with the club rock bottom of the Premier League.
He failed to improve their fortunes and the club finished the season with just 11 points, a record Premier League low.
That miserable run continued this season as the Rams failed to win any of their first four Championship matches.
And with just one win in their last nine league matches, sections of the Pride Park crowd called for Jewell's head during Sunday's defeat.
The 44-year-old leaves the club in 18th position, just three points above the relegation zone.
