Jo marks Everton debut with a brace

Everton's on-loan striker Jo marked a fine debut by winning a penalty, scoring one himself and also bagging an outstanding goal for his new club in their 3-0 victory over Bolton.

Jo may have been a misfit at Manchester City, but he settled in nicely at Goodison Park.

Five minutes from the break he was brought down in the box by Gretar Steinsson to allow Mikel Arteta his sixth goal of the season from the penalty spot. And three minutes after the break Jo cracked home a very special goal before firing in an injury-time penalty.

Everton dominated the first half and should have been ahead after just three minutes when Tim Cahill missed from barely two yards. Leon Osman put Leighton Baines away down the left and when the cross arrowed into the box, Cahill arrived at full pace to flick a shot wide of the far post.

From then on Everton moved comfortably forward, creating chances against a Bolton side who were a unrecognisable from the side who pride themselves on a battling work ethic.

The hosts, inspired by the influential Arteta, had several chances before the Spaniard netted from the penalty spot five minutes before the break after Jo was tripped by Gretar Steinsson.

Phil Jagielka headed against the bar before Osman's drive was deflected wide by Gary Cahill's challenge.

Three minutes into the second half Everton doubled their lead when Phil Neville's long punt was superbly taken down by Jo. The Brazilian turned Cahill with the move before firing home.

Dan Gosling went close with a header before producing a right-wing cross for Jo to test Jussi Jaaskelainen with a firm, downward header.

In injury-time, Mark Davies was adjudged to have handled a Gosling cross and Jo converted the penalty to give him the perfect end to his day and Everton's week.
