Johns, who made three appearances for the Wolves in a short-term deal at the end of the 2005 Super League season, will spend two weeks with the Wolves in January.

"I had a fabulous time when I played three matches for the Wolves four years ago," he said. "My debut against Leeds at the Halliwell Jones Stadium remains one of my personal highlights."

Warrington coach Tony Smith added: "To have a world-class player of his calibre will be incredibly beneficial to the whole squad, particularly the half-backs.

"The insight he can give on the game as a whole will be fantastic for all concerned - coaches and players alike."

Meanwhile, Warrington have appointed Steven Broomhead, chief executive of the Northwest Regional Development Agency, as their new chairman in succession to Lord Doug Hoyle, who becomes club president, and Lord Daresbury becomes club patron.
