Johnson eyes England recall

Andy Johnson is confident he can add to his eight England caps now he has joined Fulham.

The forward completed his move from Everton on Thursday and is looking for a fresh start after last season was marred by an ankle injury.

Johnson, 27, insists he had no hesitation about joining Roy Hodgson's side and said: ""I have England ambitions. Playing week in and week out will help me get back into the England squad."

He added: "England is still in the back of my mind. I want to be in the squad and playing for Fulham can only help that.

"Everton play with one up front home and away so you have four players fighting for one spot, which is difficult.

"I only played a limited amount of games and when I did play, I was up there on my own and could not get going."

Despite Fulham's battle with relegation last season, Johnson does not believe it will limit his chances to impress Capello.

He added: "I played for England when I was in the Championship (with Crystal Palace) so I don't think being at Fulham is a factor."

Hodgson is delighted with Johnson's capture and is planning to build his team around him and fellow new striker Bobby Zamora, who joined from West Ham.

Hodgson added: "We are fully aware of Andy's qualities and we will try to organise our team around that. His record of one in three (goals) in the Premier League is a good record - particularly by Fulham's standards. If he can do better than that, we'll be delighted."
